The Examination and Prohibition of Motor Vehicles

Introduction
This course teaches the student how to examine motor vehicles including cars, motorcycles and large goods vehicles to ensure their compliance wiith the Construction and Use Regulations. Where faults are found, the method of reporting on them and where appropriate, prohibition procedures.

What you will study
With full regard to the students’ own, and vehicular safety, to examine a vehicle, and using a good sequence of routine;
  correctly identify components and their associated connections,
  correctly describe the function of components and correctly,
  remove those components to facilitate closer inspection where necessary.

With regard to any paperwork;
  where appropriate accurately complete prohibition paperwork,
  In relation to an investigation into a road traffic collision copile an accurate report and list any conclusions,
  remove those components to facilitate closer inspection where necessary.

In relation to the law;
  be conversant in the appropriate Acts and Regulations which confer powers and offences applicable to this course.

None.

Study method

Classroom based with some practical work between the modules.

What you will need

All tools will be provided.  You will need a calculator, overalls, eye and head protection and suitable protective footwear.

Teaching and assessment

Your course tutors will help you with your studies during the course.  They will mark and comment on your coursework.  There is a process of ongoing practical and written assessments throughout both modules.  There are two assessed vehicle examinations to be completed between the modules.  There is a final written examination.

Professional recognition

Sucessful candidates can apply for membership of the Institute of the Motor Industry.

What's the award

Successful candidates will receive a Certificate in the Examination and Prohibition of Motor Vehicles from IMI Awards.  .

When does it run

This course runs twice a year at South Cerney.  It can also be delivered at your workplace for up to 12 students.
