These pages are intended to assist Senior Collision
Investigators who wish to enrol candidates on the City and Guilds Forensic
Collision Investigation for Police Programme.
Also see
C&G Course
page for details
of the course
and standard of
maths needed to
pass the course.The
scheme is split into three parts;
031 First written paper
032 Second written paper
033 Practical skills
Candidates have to pass all three parts in order
to be awarded a Certificate.
Administrative changes and
fees
Part I Course
City and Guilds now requires
candidates to be
registered for the scheme with City and Guilds. Registration attracts a City and Guilds
registration fee which will appear on your Part I course invoice.
Registration currently lasts for three years. If a candidate does not
complete the scheme within three years (starting from day one of the Part I
course), a new registration fee will be charged on entering the written
examinations (031 and 032) or when the candidate makes an 033 practical
submission. City and Guilds require registration because some elements of
the practical submission (033) are assessed on this course.
Part
II Course
No further City
and Guilds fees
are due. However
as well as the
Part II course
fees, the
invigilation
fees for the
final
examinations and
examination
accommodation
fees will appear
on your Part II
invoice.
Exams (031
and 032)
The two written
examinations 031
(first written)
and 032 (second
written) take
place on the
third Thursday
in October of
each year.
We will
automatically
enrol candidates
for the exams
who have
confirmed their
Part II course
place.
Candidates
re-sitting an
exam and who are
not booked on a
Part II course
will need to
notify us that
they wish to
re-sit one or
both of the
examinations.
The cut-off date
with City and
Guilds for
enrolling
candidates for
the written
examinations is
the 31st August.
You will
therefore need
to confirm your
Part II course
place or have
notified us of
an intention to
re-sit by the
31st July.
(Please note
that we too take
annual leave(!)
and we normally
enrol students
for the written
examinations
around the start
of August).
Late enrolment
for the
examinations is
possible however
this attracts a
penalty fee with
City and Guilds
which grows
larger the later
enrolment is
left.
Because of the
high fees now
associated with
these
examinations and
the fact that
AiTS initially
pay these fees
on your behalf,
you will receive
an invoice for
the examination
entry when we
enrol the
students.
You will
normally receive
this invoice
prior the Part
II course.
Please note that
City and Guilds
does not refund
fees for
students that
subsequently
cancel or fail
to turn up for
an examination.
Practical submission (033)
The syllabus no longer
'requires', rather it now 'suggests' that the practical element (033) is completed
prior to taking the written exams (031 and 032). If a candidate chooses
to do this and
passes the written exams, no certificate will be
issued by City and Guilds until the practical element and thus the course, has been successfully
completed.
Because the 033
element could
(and often is)
submitted much
later than the
Part II course,
we now invoice
the City and
Guilds fee
associated with
this submission
when we submit
the results to
City and Guilds.
You should also
be aware that if
submission is
made after the
City and Guilds
registration
period has
expired, another
City and Guilds
registration fee
will be due.
PLEASE
NOTE - The
current
practical
syllabus expires
in 2012.
You should
ensure that all
Candidates
currently
enrolled in the
scheme have
completed all
elements by this
date to ensure
that, should
ACPO change the
syllabus, they
do note have to
carry out
additional work.
Completing and Submitting the
033 Portfolio
ACPO has made a number of changes to the
Practical Syllabus. The changes do mean that the two reconstructions
traditionally submitted to complete the award of 033 will no longer be sufficient to
gain a pass. The main changes include producing evidence of;
- health and safety at scenes
- the use of other experts (tachograph,
toxicology etc.)
- the evaluation and use of witness evidence
- awareness of electronic distance measuring
equipment.
The changes mean that Centres will no longer be
able to collect all the evidence required to pass 033 and that Senior Collision
Investigators will now have a role in collecting evidence on the Candidates
performance in practical situations.
These pages are designed to assist Senior
Collision Investigator in managing the changes and collecting the appropriate evidence.
In
order to assist the Centre, can you please ensure that you submit all the evidence
(the portfolio)
in one go rather than in bits. A new coversheet has been designed to
assist you (see below).
Collating checking and referencing the evidence
provided by Candidates is a time consuming process. We therefore tend to
check the practical submissions submitted in quarterly batches.
Use the Evidence Checking Wizard to assist you
in collecting sufficient evidence.
